Mandi Fox lives in south-central Illinois, just southwest of the capital, Springfield. She graduated from Bob Jones University in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She works as an emergency room nurse one day a week and also picks up work at the local Express Cares. She also teaches a variety of certification classes needed for nurses and doctors. She also is a pastor's wife with the many responsibilities that entails.
Mandi met her husband, Brian, while they were at college at Bob Jones and they have been married for 22 years. They are blessed with three children, ages 18, 16, and 13. Mandi enjoys playing the piano and singing. She also enjoys curling up with a good book when all the chores are done.
They still lived in South Carolina when the kids were old enough to go to school. Her two older boys attended Bob Jones Elementary School, to begin with. Soon, she saw that they weren't going to be able to afford the private Christian school. Her husband and she both had decided before having children that they would homeschool if private school became too expensive.
So, Mandi and her husband pulled their oldest child out after first grade and her second oldest after kindergarten and homeschooled using the BJU Press video lessons. It just made sense to keep on using the same curriculum they had already been using since they were doing well with it and were already comfortable with it. They eventually had a daughter who started right away with video courses in kindergarten. To this day, she enjoys saying that Hopscotch taught her how to read!
Now they have a senior, junior, and 8th grader who continue to use the video lessons. They decided to enroll in the Academy of Home Education as South Carolina required an umbrella school. They kept up their enrollment even after moving to IL as they wanted to have the accountability plus the help with a transcript, diploma, and formal graduation.
They love the curriculum because it has a biblical worldview and because the academic knowledge prepares them for college. The kids have loved the video teachers, and Mandi loves the fact that they teach the upper levels of math so well she doesn’t have to teach or relearn it! The kids love science and enjoy the Answers in Genesis lessons. They have had many opportunities to discuss the biblical worldview they are learning with neighbors and co-workers.
Mandi became a consultant in 2016. Believe it or not, she had never heard of HomeWorks until she moved to Illinois and received a letter asking her to consider becoming a consultant. She gave it thought and prayer and realized this would be a wonderful way to minister to others. She enjoys talking about the curriculum and meeting other homeschool moms. She enjoys working conventions and doing one-on-one phone calls to encourage and assist other homeschool moms as they choose what is best for their families.
