Distance Learning Meets Our Family's Homeschool Needs
Print E-mail
A few years ago, I tried my very first distance learning online class. At the time I thought it was a little expensive, but I was desperate. I had four homeschool students plus a toddler, and was not at 100% health. Did I mention that one of those children was significantly behind because of hearing loss and I was doing speech therapy almost three hours a day with him and the toddler? I spent the money and purchased just one subject—Reading 2—for Samuel, the child who was struggling with reading. I was willing to spend the money because I knew no matter how busy my life was or what kinds of problems we were having, that child HAD to progress in reading before he realized he was behind.

Long story short—IT WORKED! That child has scored at eleventh/twelfth grade levels in Reading on his standardized tests for a couple of years now, and he doesn’t start high school until next year. What seemed so expensive at the time was one of the best investments I ever made in our homeschool.

I started adding more distance learning until I had the rich, rigorous, fun, and thriving homeschool I had always dreamed about (with time to spare for laundry). It definitely got me through several years with multiple children in school plus little ones. Now it is a huge blessing for high school literature, science, history, and math. I actually love teaching! I seem to have more time now, and I integrate more mom-taught lessons when I can; but it’s nice to know that when one child or situation needs my special attention, the other children don’t have to wait on their education.

If you’ve been considering distance learning, I encourage you to contact your consultant today. I know you’ll be glad you did.
