JourneyForth Farmer Dillo Picture Books Review

The Farmer Dillo series by Jesse Adams is an adorable picture book set that introduces pre-school children to their colors, shapes, and counting to twelve. The story lines are fun and encourage children to anticipate and predict what is coming on the next page.

When Farmer Dillo builds a new barn it must be painted…but what color? It seems like every color he tries makes it a challenge to find his barn. What color will work best? Farmer Dillo Paints His Barn presents the basic colors in such a winsome way that when he finally settles on a color, everyone believes it’s the very best color for a barn!

Someone has left the chicken coop door open in Farmer Dillo Counts His Chickens! Now the reader must help Farmer Dillo find them and count to make sure that not one is missing. It’s not very easy to find them but in the end, all twelve are safely back in the coop.

But what is this? As Farmer Dillo Looks around his farm something isn’t right. Everything seems to be the wrong shape. And so, in Farmer Dillo Shapes Things Up, he sets out to shape things up, but can Farmer Dillo get every misshapen item in shape?

This delightful series was read over and over in our home with my three children. We went through two sets of the Farmer Dillo books and even now that they’re older they’ll pull them off the shelf periodically to look through them again. The storylines are exciting, and the illustrations capture their attention. What a fun way to introduce children to learning!
