Mothering is a Gift From God

Mothering is a gift from God. Whether our children come to us naturally or through special circumstances, God gives us an instinct and a bond that is hard to describe, and it is strong and beautiful. We experience a quiet joy and a tender need to help our children in their growth. God created us to teach and nurture them.

And for moms who homeschool, there are many more opportunities for blessing and struggle because of the amount of time spent meeting your child’s needs all day long. To you, dear Mom, I wish the happiest of Mother’s Days this year. I have met you at conventions. I have hugged you when you’ve cried and rejoiced with you when you were thanking God for grace. I have seen you labor over curriculum choices and heard you share your thoughts and concerns with your parents, children, and spouses as you look over materials. I have talked to you in line, in the elevator, in the restroom (yes, that’s true), and in workshops. It is to you, today, that I want to say, you are doing a blessed and eternal thing in instructing your children in righteousness through their academics.

It may be years before your children will realize the sacrifices, tears, and joys you have experienced on a day-to-day basis, but God knows the burden He has put on your heart and how He answers those mommy prayers day by day as you look to Him for guidance. Whether or not your children literally “rise up” and verbally “call you blessed “as mentioned in Proverbs 31, their lives and accomplishments will speak to your efforts through God’s grace. God bless you for your love, nurture, and sacrifice as you teach your children to love God and their neighbors through their academic lessons. Happy Mother’s Day!
