There’s a Sweet, Sweet Spirit in This Place

Many different types of families attend homeschool conventions, from those with a very conservative background to those who are self-proclaimed secularists in their philosophy. There are very large families and those with only one or two children. There are families who foster or adopt, and those who do not. There are parents desperate to find an answer for their child’s special needs, and those who simply want to give their kids a full educational experience.

This year in particular, as I attended several national conventions, I noticed a common thread among many of these families—the desire to uplift and encourage one another. I have seen women praying with each other, hugging one another, crying together and learning from each other. I have seen families join together and spiritually strengthen one another; and it is contagious! I have found myself drawing closer to other vendors and supporting them more than ever in the ministry of encouraging homeschoolers. Our booth is filled with curriculum resources, but more than that, it is overflowing with encouragement, advice, and genuine love for our homeschooling brothers and sisters.

This is a picture of Christ, my friends. He tells us to love one another and to be salt and light. I have witnessed this in even the smallest of circumstances—in elevators, dining areas, and more. Last week I had the privilege of participating in a conversation with Leslie Nunnery from Teach Them Diligently Conventions and a small group of people who were talking about God’s overall calling to homeschooling parents. I hope you know and feel the depth of this work of the Spirit on your behalf. Each convention has its own unique flavor, but at least in my observation, the homeschool community is becoming more mission minded than ever and it is a joy to observe and participate in that.

If you have not yet found a good homeschooling community, please contact one of our Consultants. There are many Facebook groups, co-ops, and conventions available to encourage and support you as you educate your children. You can find a consultant near you by using our Consultant Locator, and we would love to connect with you on Facebook.

There’s a sweet, sweet Spirit in this place
And I know that it’s the Spirit of the Lord
There are sweet expressions on each face
And I know they feel the presence of the Lord

Sweet Holy Spirit... sweet heavenly dove...
Stay right here with us
Filling us with Your love

And for these blessings
We lift our hearts in praise
Without a doubt we know
That we’ll have been revived
When we shall leave this place
